WARDROBE TIPS FROM THE LADY CHABLIS

Y'all are probably wondering about The Doll's wardrobe, which fills the second bedroom of her Columbia, S.C., home.

That's just her at-home wardrobe, mind you. Her performance wardrobe fills her offices in Columbia and Savannah, Ga.

"I'm fortunate in that I can dress for any occasion and any type of look I want to have," she says. "When I dress, I try to make sure that I never buy anything I think somebody else might have. If I buy something, I accessorize it so if anyone else does have it, they wouldn't know it's the same dress."

For a recent Toni Braxton concert, she wore a leather-and-suede dress with a sweetheart neckline, a matching leather jacket, and black suede boots.

She travels with bodyguards on the road, she says, not just for security reasons, but "because when I travel, I don't travel with one suitcase, honey."

A few fashion don'ts from The Lady Chablis:

"There are two things I cannot stand as far as fashion is concerned," she says. "I think everybody should have their own style, but one thing I cannot stand is Li'l Debbie Snackin' Cake pumps - those shoes with the little old 2-inch-thick heels? And I cannot take the shoes they're wearing now that look like penny loafers that have a heel. I hate those. I don't care who they're by, baby, they need to go back.

"And I can never understand why a woman would ever want to wear a tie. I don't get that, baby. I'm running from ties!"

Fashion favorites include No-Nonsense pantyhose and good deals at Marshalls or Filene's Basement.
