BULLDOGS HEADING TO STATE

Leander Preston scored a game-high 21 points Thursday and Martinsville earned a berth in the Group AA tournament by beating Virginia High School 68-55 in a Region IV semifinal.

The victory puts the Bulldogs in the regional championship Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Gate City, a 56-46 winner over Graham.

Martinsville (16-7) put the game away with a 16-8 run in the third quarter. Manti Venable scored 13 for the Bulldogs and Isaac Gravely added 10.
