Pulaski police are telling residents to refuse any telephone requests for money to sponsor pages in a "police yearbook" and are calling the request a scam.
Police said they have had reports that citizens have received calls in which the caller claimed to be gathering donations for "PCY," which is supposed to be an acronym for a police yearbook group. The caller claims to be associated with the Pulaski Police Department, which is absolutely false, police said.
The caller tells the citizen a full-page ad in the yearbook costs $9 and once the citizen agrees, another person gets on the phone and tells the citizen he actually owes $900 and that a parcel service worker will stop by to pick up a check.
Authorities said at least one person has reported the scam to police, but they are unsure how many people may have been called.
