ALLEN, Vera Sigmon, 72, of Rocky Mount, died Friday, February 28,1997 in the local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Allen. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Shirley Allen, Ferrum, Calvin and Betty Allen and Eddie Allen, Glade H ill; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggie and Sam Palmer, Susie and Glen Dillon, all of Glade Hill, Betty and Gary Hurt, Linda and Charles Turner, all of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Ann Purgason and Paula Parrish, both of Danville; brother, O. D. Sigmon, Dover, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted from the Sigmon Family Cemetery, 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Bud Nichols officiating. BUCHANAN, Anna Arehart, 94, of Lexington, passed away Friday, February 28, 1997, at her home. She was born in Rockbridge County on December 20, 1902, and was the daughter of the late Charles Arehart and Lena Mitchell Arehart. Mrs. Buchanan was the widow of Walker Webb Buchanan, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda B. Smith. Surviving are four daughters, Anna B. Claytor of Lexington, Helen B. Leighton of Bartlett, Tenn., Vivian (``Tucker"") Watson of Avon Park, Fla., and Betty Ferguson and son-in-law, Carl (``Ray"") Ferguson of Buena Vista; a half sister, Carrie Arehart Aldridge; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was retired from the Virginia Military Institute laundry department after 30 years of service. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lexington and Fairfield Senior Citizens, as well as a former member of Eastern Star and Loving Rebekah Lodge. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 1997, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Shirley Bruffey and a friend, Edith Zollman, officiating. CHERRY, James Lunsford, 82, of Roanoke, passed away after a long illness, Saturday, March 1, 1997 at the VA Medical Center, Salem. He was a retired employee of the VA Medical Center. Surviving are his wife, Bessie G. Cherry; daughter, Jane Wadsworth of Calabash, N.C.; son, David Cherry of Carthage, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Barker, Roanoke, Virginia Harrison, Salem; stepson, Rodney Grogan, Salem; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 2:30 p.m. Monday, with Pastor Raymond Martin officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. COFFIN, Marie Evelyn, 71, of Radford, passed away Saturday, March 1, 1997 at her home. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Tracey C. and Randy Mattson of Willis, and Deborah J. Cyr of Radford; two sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Lovina Coffin of North Carolina and Michael I. Cofin of Milford, C onn.; four granddaughters, Aimee and Dominique Cyr and Leanna and Monika Mattson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Millie and Jack Tompkins of Florida and Jean and Donald Paradis of Main; and one brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Cory Kerry of Connecticut. There will be no services. The body was cremated. The family has requested that no flowers be sent. COLLINS, Hazel Fisher, 73, of Salem, passed away Friday, February 28, 1997, at her home. She went to join her husband, Harry E. Collins, and son, Donnie Ray Collins, in Heaven. Mrs. Collins was retired after 30 years of service from the VA Medical Center in Salem. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn (``Spunky"") Darnall, and Judy a nd Joe Fisher; grandchildren, Robin Brown Casanova and her husband Gus, Alan Brown, Christopher Fisher, Jason Darnall, and Tamara, David, Dawn and Jennifer Collins; great-grandchildren, Corey, Emily and Haley Casanova and Cristin Collins, and a very special friend, Larry. GUNTER, Clarence Houston, (``Jim""), 75, of Salem, died Friday, February 28, 1997 at the VA Medical Center in Salem. He was retired from Hennis Freight Lines. He was a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife, Marcene O. Gunter; two sons and daughters-in-law, David C. and Lauren Gunter, Roanoke, Steven R. and Brandy Gunter, Salem; a daughter, Melissa Dawn Gunter, Salem; stepson and his wife, Richard and Janet Burnette, Summerville, S.C.; two brothers, Carl B. Gunter, Front Royal, Chuck Gunter, Newton, Iowa; two sisters, Mildred Williams, Ocala, Fla., Lucille Pippin, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Gunter, Scott David Gunter, all of Roanoke; two stepgrandchildren, Amber Widener and Erin Burnette; and a number of nieces and nephews. HOY, Harold C., 73, of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, February 22, 1997. He was a native of Boones Mill in Franklin County. The funeral was held on Tuesday, February 25, 1997, from First Baptist Church in Norfolk. Arrangements were handled by H. D. Oliver Funeral Home.
INGRAM, Elder Robert Kirk, 71, of Roanoke, entered into eternal rest to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, February 28, 1997. He was born on March 25, 1925, the son of the late Robert Ingram and Ellen Burks Ingram. He received his early education in the Roanoke City Schools, and with a deep interest in religion, continued courses in the field of religion for three years. His studies were interrupted as he answered the call to duty and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, for which he received an honorable discharge. He ultimately became Pastor of Bibleway Pentecostal Apostolic Church of Christ, succeeding the late Bishop C. P. Jones. He served as Pastor for 21 years until his death, and was held in highest esteem by the entire religious community of the Roanoke Valley and vicinity. Those left to rejoice in his memory are his devoted wife, MOTHER (of the Church) Willie Mae I ngram; one son, Robert (``Bobby"") K. Ingram Jr. of Roanoke; two daughters, Nadine Ingram (Carl) Carson and Robin Ingram of Roanoke; sister, Mrs. Eleanor Sye of Montclair, N.J.; brother-in-law, Luther (Geraldine) Watson Jr., and sister-in-law, Betty Jean Lewis, both of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Sonya Roman, Robert K. Ingram III, Lauren Hobson, Donna Parker, Jameko Kasey and Adrian Ingram; six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He will also be greatly missed by his Church Family of Bibleway Pentecostal Apostolic Church, 501 13th Street, N.W., and the ministerial associations of Roanoke. The remains will lie in state at the church on Tuesday, with a WAKE from 7 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at BIBLEWAY PENTECOSTAL APOSTOLIC CHURCH, with Elder Joe Ingram and Elder Davis Dent officiating. Burial will follow in Williams Memorial Park. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis.
JONES, Harold R., (``Mike"") (Lt. Col., U.S. Army, ret.) of Roanoke, died Friday, February 28, 1997 at Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was the son of the late Captain Ernest T. Jones and Jessie Reed Jones. Col. Jones graduated from Georgia Military College and served in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Other assignments included, U. S. Forces in Austria, Intelligence Section of the Original Petroleum Committee, Munition Board and with the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission in Korea. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Vannoy Jones; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Douglas Viar; grandchildren, Brett and Jillian Viar. A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at Culpeper National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers gifts may be sent to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke.

LONG, Betty Elizabeth Stewart, 59, of 256 Kelly Rd., Union, S.C., widow of Claude Long Sr., died February 27, 1997. Mrs. Long was born in Old Ellenton, S.C. on December 1, 1937, a daughter of the late Tommy and Kathrine Ann Ethridge Stewart. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Amanda Weaver of Union; a stepdaughter, Claudia Kelly of Union; two sons, Jimmy Peters of Smoaks, S.C. and Dale Peters of Dallas, Texas; four sisters, Minnie Edwins of St. Helena Island, S.C., Lena Ulmer of Cummings, S.C., Mary S. Valentine of Roanoke, Va., and Barbara Ann Burton of Columbia, S.C.; a number of grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Fred Small of Union. O'CANAS, Genevieve Johnson, 83, of Roanoke, died Saturday, March 1, 1997 in N. H. C. Health Care in Bristol, Va. She was a native of Roanoke, Va., widow of David O'Canas, and retired from Roanoke Finishing Company. She was a member of Belmont Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Marian) Wilburn, Castlewood, Va.; one grandson, Trey Wilburn, Castlewood; and several nieces and nephews. OWENS, Eldon Ray, 48, of Snowville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 1997 after a two month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Owens and his father-in-law, Abraham Bonds. He was a member of the Radford Bass Masters for 15 years, a member of the Fisherman's Bass Circuit of Jerry Ryan. He was also a member of the Corner View Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Owens was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict from 1966 to 1970. He was a 17 year employee of New River Industries. Surviving are his wife, Terry B. Owens, Snowville; a son and daughter-in-law, Stacy and Tina Owens, Snowville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christy and Larry Whiting, Misty and Kevin Walker, all of Snowville; his mother, Dorothy Owens, Snowville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Kathy Owens of Florida, Buddy and Peggy Owens, Freddie and Diane Owens, Ricky and Doris Owens, all of Radford; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Robert Viers and Shirley and Tommy Weaver, both of Radford; his mother-in-law, Virginia Bonds, Snowville. Several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts also survive. Also his special friends, Rev. Allen Duncan and special Bas Master friends, Doug Johnson, James Trout and Larry Walker survive. RAMSEY, Dolly Edwards, 79, of 621 Forrest Street, Martinsville, died Friday, February 28, 1997, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. She was born in North Carolina on September 11, 1917, to the late Charlie P. Edwards and Mary Frances Lynch Edwards. She retired from DuPont with 291/2 years of service, and was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church. She was the widow of James Francis Ramsey and is survived by a son, Oscar Charles Taylor of Georgia; two stepsons, Tex Ramsey and Jerry Ramsey of Bassett; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Foley of Stuart, Yvonne Martin of Bassett and Frances Allen of Ferrum; a sister, Katherine Wood of Patrick Springs; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 13 stepgrandchildren, and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3, 1997, with the Rev. David Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Jackson Tyler.
