REFLECTIONS RESULTS

The National PTA sponsors the Reflections program each year. Reflections, in its 27th year, is designed to promote fine arts in the schools. This year's theme was "It Could Happen ..." The theme is selected from suggestions sent in by children across the country. Entries have to be directly related to and express the theme, or the theme has to be used in a title or subtitle. The categories for entry are literature, visual arts, photography and music composition. The different grade levels are primary (K-2 ); intermediate (grades 3-5); junior level (grades 6-8) and senior level (grades 9-12).

Sixteen of the 20 eligible PTAs in Montgomery County participated in this year's program. Students submitted 721 entries. Students first submit their entries to their school PTA. Each participating school PTA then submits its first-place winners in each of the categories to the County Reflections Program contest. First-place winners from the county then compete in the New River District PTA competition. Successive first-place winners then move on to the state and then the national level.

Eight entries from Montgomery County have advanced to compete at the state level. County winners and participants were recognized at a social on Feb. 16. Following is a list of county winners. First-place winners (in bold) advanced to the district level. First-place county winners, who have an asterisk next to their name, have advanced to compete at the state level.
