WOMAN DIES IN AUTO WRECK

A Christiansburg woman died Sunday night after she failed to yield the right of way at an intersection and her car was hit by another vehicle.

Carolyn A. Graves, 44, was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. at Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital, according to police.

Christiansburg Officer Roy Holt said a preliminary investigation showed that Graves was driving on Simmons Road when she pulled in front of a westbound car on Roanoke Street. The intersection is along the commercial strip of Roanoke Street leading from the U.S. 460 bypass to Interstate 81's Exit 118, the main Christiansburg exit. The driver and passenger in the Roanoke Street car were uninjured, Holt said.

Graves' son, Gary Wayne Barker, was one of three men convicted in the murder of a Virginia Tech student on Dec. 5, 1995. Barker, 20, is serving a 53-year prison sentence for his part in a crime spree.
