Microsoft Corp. says it has come up with a fix to a flaw in its Internet Explorer browser that could allow a Web site operator to secretly run programs or ruin files in someone else's personal computer.
A ``software patch'' to correct the problem was made available late Tuesday for users to download for free from the company's World Wide Web site.
``This update is an immediate response to ensure that Microsoft customers continue to have a safe Internet experience with Microsoft Internet Explorer,'' the company said in a news release.
Microsoft said it had no customer reports of security breaches.
But company officials considered the flaw a serious problem because it potentially could allow an electronic attacker to bypass the browser's security system.
