SMOKE SIGNAL

LENGTH: Short : 22 lines
ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO: BRIAN MARSHALL. AN ELECTRICAL fire is believed to have

started in an accessory panel and then gutted this Salem school bus

on Cliffview Avenue about 12:45 p.m. Friday, Salem Assistant

Superintendent Mike Bryant said. Bus driver June Robinett had just

dropped off the last of her students from East Salem elementary

school at the Willow River Apartments, and was on her way to pick up

more students, when she noticed smoke and abandoned the bus. The

interior of the bus was heavily damaged and it is unlikely repairs

can be made, Bryant said. No one was injured. All of Salem's buses

made that year will be checked for similar trouble.
