A teen-ager who escaped Sunday from a newly opened treatment center for youth offenders was captured Friday afternoon in a nearby neighborhood, police said.
Norfolk police were holding Joseph Medina, 18, who is a suspect in a burglary committed this week, said police spokesman Larry Hill.
Medina had been sent to the privately operated Tidewater Residential Institute after being convicted of statutory burglary and petty larceny in Prince William County. He was still a juvenile at the time of his conviction.
Medina and another teen-ager escaped from the institute early Sunday. The other teen, who is under 18, was recaptured the same day.
The Tidewater center opened about two weeks ago to provide residential treatment for nonviolent offenders.
