BECK, Carolyn Kennedy, 51, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at home. She was born January 7, 1946 in Rockbridge County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys E. Cash. Surviving are her husband, Paul A Beck, Exssex, Md.; two sisters, Patricia Tomlin of Buena Vista; and Sue Lesko of Md.; three brothers, Edward L. Kennedy of Buena Vista; Donald W. Kennedy of Md.; and John S. Cash of Buena Vista; father, John H. Cash of Md. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 1997 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 8, 1997 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista.

BLOUNT, Patricia G., (``Penny''), 50, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, March 6, 1997, while in Greenfield, Ind. She was predeceased by her father, Robert A. (``Bob'') Shelton Sr., and a brother, Robert A. (``Bobby'') Shelton Jr. Surviving are her husband, James (``Doug'') Blount, Greenfield, Ind.; daughter and s on-in-law, Krysty and Shane Young, Greenfield, Ind.; her son and his fiancee, Chad Blount and Kathy, Greenfield, Ind.; her mother, Ruby Nichols Shelton, Roanoke; four sisters, Teresa Hughes, Tammy Switzer, Kim Swisher, Donna Peters, all of Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Marie Shelton-Tilley, Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, 1997, from Oakey's North Chapel. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.

BOWER, Nancy Pearl Harper, of Troutville, died Friday, March 7, 1997. She was a member of Troutville Church of the Brethren, and is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Rowland Wampler of Troutville and Darlene Odenwelder of Daleville; one brother, Herbert Harper of Troutville; five grandchildren, Robert Odenwelder, Steven Wampler and wife Julia, Brit Wampler, Todd Wampler and wife Lori, and Laura Wampler, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 1997, at Troutville Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Roy Heinlen and the Rev. J. Weldon Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Daleville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rader Funeral Home in Daleville. BULLOCK, Baxter Mangum, 73, of Independence, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at his home. A native of Durham, N.C., he was raised in Richmond. He was a 30-year veteran of the United States Army, entering as an enlisted man and retiring in 1977 as a full Colonel. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. His long and distinguished years of military service earned him many honors, including the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and various decorations for service in overseas campaigns. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and a Master's degree in education from the University of Southern California. He served for several years as a professor of Military Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was a Certified Property Manager and held both real estate and brokerage licenses. Since moving to Grayson County in 1988, he was active in the philanthropic life of the community, serving as a member of the Grayson County School Board, Trustee of the Grayson-Wythe Public Library, Chairman of the Grayson County Eldercare Committee, and tutor in the local One-On-One Literacy Program. He attended First United Methodist Church of Independence. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca McManigle Bullock of Independence; two daughters, Sheila Bullock of Pi ttsburgh, Pa., and Gayle Bullock of Davidson, N.C.; two sons, Stephen Bullock of Elon College, N.C., and Edd Bullock of Fairfax; three sisters, Gertrude B. Hocutt of Henderson, N.C., Christine B. Lawrence of Richmond and Bobbie B. Seay of Manakin-Sabot, and one niece. A memorial service will be held at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, with the Rev. Brian Miller and Chaplain Bob Gordon officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Col. Bullock will be buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grayson-Wythe Public Library, the One-On-One Literacy Program, or the Baxter Bullock Memorial Fund, c/o Wythe-Grayson Public Library, P.O. CROSS, Linda Kaye Patton, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. EWING, Betty Blankenship, 58, of Roanoke County, died Friday, March 7, 1997, at her residence. Mrs. Ewing was a long time member and Sunday School teacher at Green Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Thomas W. Ewing; her son and daughter-in-law, W. David and Tracey Ewing, Raleigh, N.C.; her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and James Ruel, Susan and Chris Kelly, all of Roanoke; her grandchildren, Melissa Ewing, Aaron Ruel; her brothers, Reggie Blankenship, Cantonment, Fla.; Ron Blankenship, Roanoke; her sisters, Jo Blankenship, Salem, Marsha Goch, Florida. HUNT, Vera Forbes, (``Honey''), 83, of 1904 Dickson Street, Clifton Forge, died Thursday morning, March 6, 1997, at the Liberty House Nursing Home in Clifton Forge. She was born in Wirtz October 21, 1913, a daughter of the late Robert Edward and Martha Elizabeth Meriam Starkey Forbes. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church. She was a former member of the Rainbow Mountain Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Father Daniel Robert Hunt in September of 1977. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James (Vera) Melton of Elon College, N.C., and Mrs. Joseph (Meriam) Carpenter III of Valley Ridge, Covington; one son, Daniel Robert Hunt Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Mrs. Helen Croft Wimmer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren, Melissa Melton Snyder of Vermont, Meriam Elizabeth Carpenter of Roanoke, and Joseph Hannah Carpenter IV of Valley Ridge, Covington. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. from Mountain View Cemetery in Clifton Forge with Father William Crites officiating. JARVIS, Donald Judson, 60, of Roanoke, passed on Thursday, March 6, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn L. Jarvis of Roanoke; three sons, Donald K. (Elaine) Jarvis and Alex C. (Barbara) Jarvis, both of New York, and Michael L. Jarvis of Florida; two grandchildren, William A. and Ashley S. Jarvis, both of New York; his stepmother, Mary Elizabeth Bolden of Roanoke; four brothers, Phillip (Lois) Bolden, James (Orris) Bolden and David Bolden, all of Roanoke, and Samuel (Myra) Bolden of Florida, and two sisters, Barbara Jarvis Washington and Lorraine (Ray) Lipscomb, all of Roanoke. The funeral will be Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at 11 a.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Interment will be in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. JORDAN, Augustus Walter (June) 71, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, March 6, 1997. He is survived by his mother, Christina Coleman of Salem, four daughters, Betty (William) Posser of Roanoke; Donna Miller of Salem; Carolyn Taylor of Roanoke; and Paula Basham also of Roanoke; three brothers, David Jordan of Texas; Rudolph Jordan of New York; and George Jordan, o ne sister, Ruby Coleman of Minn.; seven grand children, two great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. KARDIS, Andrew, 77, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, March 6, 1997 at his home. Mr. Kardis was a Realtor Broker in the Roanoke Valley for over 35 years. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and a long time active member of Melrose Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Kardis Brink. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Edna Ratliff Kardis; a daughter, Sherry Kardis Cotman, Annandale; granddaughter, Carrie Lin Cotman, also of Annandale; a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Dale Miille, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Mitchell Kardis, Clifton, N.J.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia and Frank Webb, Collinsville; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Gee and Frances Ratliff, both of Roanoke; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 12 noon Monday, March 10, 1997 with The Rev. Larry E. Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. MICOU, Agnes Madeline, 84, of Dublin, passed away Thursday, March 6, 1997, at her residence. Born in Pulaski County on February 10, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Laura Smith Farmer. She was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Micou. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nancy M . Norris of Oriental, N.C., and Mrs. Agnes M. Lilly of Chesterfield; one sister, Mrs. Inez St. Clair of Salem; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 9, 1997, at 2 p.m., at Mountain View United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Barry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
