In the musical "My Fair Lady," Professor Henry Higgins asks the musical question, "Why Can't A Woman Be More Like A Man?" Dramatist Lavonne Mueller will give an answer, at least as far as playwrights are concerned, on Thursday evening at 8 at Emory & Henry College.
Mueller, a playwright and former director of the Playwrights Workshop at the University of Iowa, will speak on "Do Women Playwrights Write Differently from Men?" The lecture is free to the public.
One of her plays, "Little Victories," was nominated for Best Foreign Play in Japan in 1994. Members of the Barter Theatre troupe will do a reading of that play Tuesday evening at 8. Mueller will conduct playwriting workshops and speak in classes during her one-week visit.
Her talk is part of the Richard Joshua Reynolds Lecture Series, made possible by a grant from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, to expose students to leading thinkers in the humanities.
