A juvenile employee of a Salem Wendy's was arrested Friday night after allegedly looting a cash register.
About 10:25 p.m. the employee, whose name is not being released because of her age, grabbed an undisclosed number of $20 bills from a register at the Wendy's, in the 900 block of West Main Street. She then walked out the door and left the restaurant in a car driven by someone else, Salem Lt. D.F. Murphy said.
Because she was an employee, police were quickly able to identify her and locate her address. Officers stopped a car matching the description of the one that left the restaurant less than a block from her home, Murphy said.
The girl was found, still wearing her uniform, in the car along with three packed suitcases and the stolen money, Murphy said.
She was charged with grand larceny and released into the custody of her guardians, who Murphy believed were the girl's grandparents. The driver has not yet been charged.
