A 30-year-old man from the Roanoke area died after falling 80 feet Saturday afternoon while rock climbing in Giles County.
The man's name will not be released until relatives are notified, according to Investigator Mark Skidmore of the Giles County Sheriff's Office.
There was no indication of foul play, but alcohol might have been involved, Skidmore said.
The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. at Spruce Run and River roads along the New River. The man was one of five friends rock climbing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
