TULTEX PROMOTES 3 EXECUTIVES

Tultex Corp., an activewear and sports apparel manufacturer and marketer based in Martinsville, has appointed TONY PICHIRALLO vice president-wholesale. Pichirallo joined Tultex in 1987 as regional sales manager for the Midwest, and most recently was general manager-wholesale.

MICHAEL WHITE, who has been with Tultex since 1990, succeeds Pichirallo as general manager-wholesale. Before to his promotion, he was director of national sales for the wholesale business unit. Before joining Tultex, White was employed by Converse in Boston.

JEFF JUDKINS has been promoted to general manager of customer service. Judkins joined Tultex in 1991 as an account executive in the retail business unit and most recently was director of retail sales.

BANKING

FRANK O. MEADE JR. has been promoted to vice president of commercial banking at First Union National Bank of Virginia. Meade, who joined the bank in 1990, is a relationship manager for the Roanoke Valley and Southside Virginia.

PHILLIP W. DEAN has been elected to the board of directors of Martinsville-based MainStreet BankGroup Inc. Dean is executive vice president and chief executive officer of Leadbetter Inc. in Ashland.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

DOUGLAS COVINGTON, president of Radford University, has been inducted into the College of Education's Hall of Fame at Ohio State University, from which he received both his master's and doctoral degrees. He is one of three distinguished alumni recently honored by the university.

CONSTRUCTION

KEITH M. DODSON has been named vice president of estimating at Avis Construction Co. Inc. of Roanoke. He joined Avis in 1978. Also, S. SCOTT SHROPSHIRE has joined the company as an estimator. He is a recent graduate of Virginia Military Institute.

MANUFACTURING

ELLEN CARR has been named customer service manager at Rubatex Corp. in Roanoke as part of a reorganization of the company's customer service division. Carr joined Rubatex in 1995 when it acquired Halstead Corp. of Greensboro, N.C., where she had worked since 1991. Also at Rubatex, ROGER SCHMIDT has been promoted to technical director for the corporation. He will be responsible for both product development and technical service to customers. Schmidt joined Rubatex in 1995 as technical manager for the company's Bedford manufacturing plant. Before that, he was new-product development director for Halstead Corp. in Greensboro.

NONPROFITS

ROBERTA H. "BOBBIE" BROGAN has been named deputy director and planner of Support to Eliminate Poverty Inc., a private, nonprofit community action agency in Rocky Mount. Brogan comes to STEP from Total Action Against Poverty in Roanoke, where she has worked since 1992 and has been supervisor of health services since 1994. In her new position, she will be responsible for planning, grant writing, administration and public relations.

ORGANIZATIONS

The Roanoke Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners has elected new officers and board members: GREGG WOOD, Delta Star Information Services, president; DANA LONG, city of Roanoke, vice president; WAYNE PARKER, Norfolk Southern Corp., treasurer; and DON CORBIN, Norfolk Southern Corp., secretary. LARRY STANLEY, Richmond Security Inc. in Lynchburg, and JEANNIE BROWN, city of Roanoke, have been named to the board of directors.

VETERINARY

DR. STAN EICHELBERGER has been elected president of the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association. Eichelberger has been on the association's board since 1992, was chairman of the public relations and strategic planning committees and was vice president in 1995. He has practiced veterinary medicine in Roanoke since 1969 as the owner of Animal Medical Associates Inc.
