Town police arrested a 55-year-old Blacksburg man on a charge of malicious wounding Monday after a fight early that morning outside Lake Terrace Motel.
Police said they were called to the scene of the fight on South Main Street after witnesses found a man lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk.
The initial investigation, police said, showed the victim had been hit in the head with a piece of a metal bed frame between 3 and 4:15 a.m.
Within an hour of the call, police arrested James R. Stover on one count of malicious wounding in connection with the case. He is in the Montgomery County Jail under a $20,000 bond, according to police.
Police said the victim was treated for a severe head laceration and released from Columbia Montgomery County Regional Hospital.
