PH APPOINTS JOHNSON NEW FOOTBALL COACH

Patrick Henry named Jeff Johnson as the school's new football coach Tuesday.

Johnson needs an assistant coach to round out his staff, and school principal Betty Lee told him to ``look at what your needs are and let us know.''

Johnson last was a head football coach for Natural Bridge in 1984-85 before joining the staff of Larry Carter at Patrick Henry in 1986. He has served under four football coaches and follows Ed Scott, who resigned last November.

Virginia: Senior offensive lineman Mike Kelly has been invited to play in the National All-Stars College Football Classic on March 15 in Orlando, Fla. Kelly played in every game for the Cavaliers this past season and started three at offensive tackle.

A pregame scouting combine is scheduled for March 14 in Orlando.

Alvarez scores well

Ferrum's Ed Alvarez finished four shots off the pace and in a tie for second place after the final round of the Max Ward Invitational.
