The Southwest Virginia Governor's School may reassess which localities it covers at the start of each year. That's because school divisions that send students to the Dublin-based school for mathematics, science and technology change from year to year, members of the school's governing board said Tuesday.

The only immediate effect would be which localities would have voting representatives on the school's board. A possible effect later could be a surcharge of some sort on nonparticipating localities for providing wireless computer connections to local schools. Board Chairman Ron Whitehead noted that some of those localities get a "free ride" with such Governor's School initiatives, if they provide no students. The board may consider the matter at some future meeting.

Upcoming:

The Pulaski County School Board will meet at 6 tonight at the School Board office. Topics include Superintendent Bill Asbury's budget recommendations for 1997-98, the school system's Gifted and Talented program, and proposed additional class requirements for graduation.
