GA. TECH TURNS BACK HOKIES

Kris Wilson's two-out single in the ninth inning drove in Adam Easterling from second base with the winning run to give fourth-ranked Georgia Tech (18-2) a 9-8 victory over Virginia Tech in a college baseball game in Atlanta.

The Hokies (5-11) had tied the score with a three-run ninth on a pair of hits and Barry Gauch's three-run homer. Gauch was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in, and teammate Matt Griswold was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.

In other baseball in the region:

VMI: Brad Davis led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and scored on an error to give the Keydets a 6-5 victory and a doubleheader sweep over Western Carolina in Southern Conference action in Lexington.

Eric East (Glenvar) hit a grand slam to key an eight-run third inning as VMI came back from a 4-0 deficit to rout the Catamounts 17-9 in the first game.

LACROSSE

Oglesby leads Maroons

Ali Oglesby pumped in six goals and added an assist to lead Roanoke to a 17-12 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory at Randolph-Macon in Ashland.

Lisa Franzino added four goals for the Maroons (2-1, 2-0), and Meg Gibson had three goals and two assists for the Yellow Jackets (0-2, 0-2).

Hollins: Caroline McGehee scored five goals to lead Hollins to a 9-2 victory over visiting Trinity College.

SOFTBALL

Roanoke advances

Roanoke advanced to the championship bracket of the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational in Norfolk, where the Maroons lost to the host Marlins 2-1.

Roanoke (1-5), which dropped a 4-3 decision to North Carolina Wesleyan, defeated Averett 10-0 to advance to the winners' bracket.
