WINE SOCIETY TO FEATURE MERLOTS AT THURSDAY TASTING

The Roanoke Valley Wine Society's next tasting will explore Merlots from around the world as participants "blind taste" a selection of these popular wines.

Samples of six different Merlots will be poured from unidentified bottles to let tasters guess the wines' origins and compare qualities without being swayed by the winery or country.

The wines are being chosen for their similarities and their differences, but the selection is a secret, so find out for yourself what can be done with this popular red grape. The tasting will be Thursday at Hidden Valley Country Club in Salem from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $15 per person. To make reservations, call 389-8146.
