Key executive quits NationsBank
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - NationsBank Corp.'s John Griff, who ran the bank's investment grade fixed-income business, resigned unexpectedly Tuesday with no apparent plans for a new job. Griff, a 15-year Wall Street veteran, joined the bank in March 1993 as a vice chairman of its securities underwriting unit.
Five other capital markets employees quit last week. Two of them, William Ingram and Keith Mauney of the investment-grade fixed-income desk, took jobs across town at First Union Corp., traders said. NationsBank's archrival declined to comment.

ETS International Inc. of Roanoke said Tuesday it has obtained credit of $2.5 million on a two-year note secured by its assets. The fixed interest is $25,000 a month, equal to a 15 percent annual rate. The credit was provided by Thomas Marmon, a director and investor in the company. Marmon, of Grand Rapids, Mich, is former president of a psychiatric hospital there.
Motorola Inc. is expected to announce today it has won a lucrative contract to set up a digital cellular telephone network for several Japanese companies. The multiyear contract potentially is worth billions of dollars, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Macon F. Brock, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Dollar Tree Stores Inc., has been named to the Signet Bank board of directors, the bank said Tuesday. Signet, a $12 billion bank based in Richmond, has offices in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Brokers at Prudential Securities Inc. will have to bone up on their computer skills if their bosses are to make more money. For the first time this year, bonuses for branch managers at the fifth-largest U.S. brokerage firm will depend in part on how well brokers use its financial planning software, called Financial Architect, which helps customers decide how their assets should be allocated based on risk tolerance and other factors.
