ANDERSON, Donald Sr., 86, of Roanoke and Lake Worth, Fla., died Monday, March 24, 1997 in Lake Worth, Fla. He is survived two sons and their families, Douglas Anderson, his wife, Susan, and their children, Jennifer, Chris, Taryn and Patrick, Donald Anderson Jr., his wife, Annette, and their children, Ray, Dawn and Trace. BAYS, Bernard Henry, (``Jack''), 73, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, in a Montgomery County hospital. He was a veteran of World War II, and an active member of the D.A.V. Chapter 29 in Christiansburg. He was a retired employee of Inland Motors. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post 5311 in Christiansburg. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy L. Bays, Christiansburg; a daughter, Nancy B. Lytton, Dublin; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Donald Wilson, Radford; a sister, Josephine Woolridge, Gary, W.Va. Four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, 1997, at DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Bond officiating. BROWN, Nathan David, (``Hap''), 81, of Salem, died Wednesday, March 26,1997. He worked as a farm manager for the Lutheran Children's Home for 38 years. He also was a long time member of College Luthern Church, he joined the church of May 5, 1928. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie L. Brown. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Young Brown; a son and daughter-in-law, David Wayne and Dianne Brown, Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Donald Tuck, Salem; stepson, Rev. C. L. Young and wife, Macy; a stepdaughter, Judy Young Conner and her husband, Pete; grandchildren, Sharon McKinney Huff and Brent McKinney, Matthew and Jeffrey Brown; and two great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren, Barry and Jay Young, Patrick and Mark Conner, Lisa Pue and Cheryl Wade; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29 at John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem at 10 am with the Rev. Dwayne J. Westermann and the Rev. Robert R. Ward officiating. CUNDIFF, Joe Jr., 74, of Mone ta, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 1997, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 1, 1922, in Bedford County, a son of the late Joseph H. Cundiff Sr. and Maude Lynch Cundiff. He was a retired forklift operator, and was a member of the Emmaus United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Cundiff; and a sister, Ethel Cundiff. He is survived by his wife, Glenna Miller Cundiff; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marie C. and William Bailey, Moneta, Martha Ann Cundiff, Moneta; a brother, Davis Cundiff, Moneta; a sister, Sallie Willie Spradlin, Bedford; a grandson, Michael Bailey, Moneta; several nieces and nephews. GREER, Warren Harding, 75, of Roanoke went to meet his brother Paul to go fishing in God's heavenly waters on March 26, 1997 for eternity. He was retired from General Electric in Salem, he was a World War II Veteran. He is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Judy and Roy Mabry, Barbara and Bob Dowell both of Roanoke; Vickie and David Dudley of Montgomery County; one sister, Annie Boone of Salem; two brothers, Everett Greer, Malcolm Greer both of Salem; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 1997 at 12 noon at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Anthony Busic and the Rev. Jack Payne officiating. LESTER, Larry Keith, 57, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 1997, in a Salem hospital. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Lester was owner of Lester's Electrical Service, which he operated for some 30 years. He held membership in the Roanoke Valley Home Builders Association, Vinton Moose Lodge, and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alexander Lee Lester; and a sister, Naomi Lester Forrest. MATTHEWS, Robert L., (``Bob""), 78, of Buchanan, passed away Monday, March 24, 1997, in a Salem Hospital. During World War II, he served in the US Navy. He retired from James River Limestone Corp. Mr. Matthews was predeceased by a son, Bobby Arnold. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Noble Matthews; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Hanah Matthews, Lewis and Peggy Matthews, Jack and Shirley Noble; a daughter, Linda Koenders; daughters and sons-in-law, Madge and E.W. McGEE, Martha Rector, 78, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997. Mrs. McGee graduated from Sweetbriar College and was a lifetime member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She was born April 13, 1911, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Chester Jacobs and Susan Barker Jacobs. Her husband was the late Robert J. Payne. She was a member of the Huddleston United Methodist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Thelma Divers, Hazel Mitchell, both of Bedford, Mamie Crouch, Montvale, Mary Booze, Vinton; three sons, Thomas Payne, Eugene Payne, both of Moneta, Wallace Payne, Bedford; four sisters, Rebecca Summitt, Arlington, Lucille Jacobs, Janie Robertson, both of Lynchburg, Selina Black, Monroe; three brothers, Eddie Jacobs, Salem, David Jacobs, Chesterfield, William Jacobs, Appomattox; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sowers was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, McDaniel Lodge #86 AF & AM, the Kazim Shrine Temple and the Gideons. Surviving are his wife, Elsie Bower Sowers; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Sowers Whiteley and G.P. VANZANDT, Elizabeth, (``Betty""), 94, of Ironton, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, in Sun City, Ariz. She was the daughter of Galon C. Vanzandt and Elizabeth R. Vanzandt. She had lived in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio and Roanoke before working with the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. In D.C., she belonged to the National Presbyterian Church, 20th Century Club and Business and Professional Women's Club. In Arizona, she belonged to the Heard Museum, Boswell Hospital Auxiliary, Sun City Spinner and Weavers Club, Desert Weaver Club, Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Faith Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased in death by her sisters, Ruth V. Hamilton and Mrs. Mary Freer. She is survived by nephews, Richard V. Hamilton, Roanoke, David R. Hamilton, Cary, N.C., Thomas J. Hamilton, Huntsville, Ala. ; nieces, Martha H. Grammar, Garland , Texas; Mrs. Elizabeth Nicholson, East Setauket, N.Y. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 1997.
WILLIAMS, Frank C., 84, of Roanoke and Woodstock, Ga., died Monday, March 24, 1997. He was retired Superintendent of Equipment for Valley Metro. He was active for many years as a Scout Leader in the Roanoke area. Mr. Williams was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Surviving is his wife, Frances R.
