STUDENTS PUT ON SHOW FOR JABBERWOCK

Musical variety show raises money for scholarships for college-bound valley students.

Students from three Roanoke Valley schools will participate in Jabberwock 1997, a musical variety show, Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center. The program's theme is "Cultured Pearls, Rare, Rounded and Radiant."

The Roanoke Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sponsors the event each year to raise money for scholarships for valley students attending four-year colleges or universities. In addition to the performances of the show's contestants, Shana Waller, a Patrick Henry High School student, will give a dramatic presentation; Witney Thaxton, a fifth-grader from Charlotte, N.C., will sing; and the Virginia State University chapter of Delta Sigma Theta's step team will perform.

Advance tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for those 17 and under, may be purchased by calling Kim Amos, 985-0448. Tickets will also be available at the door for $12 and $6.
