Residents of Garden City and southern Roanoke County may have to find a new way downtown, come next week: The city will temporarily close Yellow Mountain Road for at least five days.
The closure, at Yellow Mountain Road just east of Valley Pike Road, takes effect Monday at 9 a.m. It's so contractors can install a storm drain.
The road should reopen Friday at 5 p.m. unless inclement weather delays the job. The city is encouraging motorists to find a different way into the downtown area until then.
