Short-story contest|

MARION - Previously unpublished stories of up to 6,000 words will compete for a total of $345 in cash prizes in the 21st annual Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest.

The contest is open to anyone except professional writers who earn more than half of their income from writing, and teachers of creative writing at the college level. Creative writing teachers at elementary-, middle- or high-school levels are eligible to enter a story.

Entries are limited to one per person. Contestants must be residents or natives of Southwest Virginia or adjoining areas of bordering states.

Entries should be mailed to Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest, P.O. Box 1161, Marion, Va. 24354, by the end of May.

Loretta Lynn in concert

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Country music singer Loretta Lynn will perform in two sows at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. April 24 at The Paramount Center for the Arts as part of the center's anniversary celebration.

Reserved seats are available for $25 by calling the Paramount box office at (423) 968-7456.

The Paramount is a former movie theater at 518 State Street, which divides Bristol, Tenn., and Bristol, Va.

It was restored and redesigned as an arts center six years ago.
