BETTER LIVING EXPO '97: THE HOME SHOW

Get your home building, repair or remodeling questions ready and visit the experts at THE HOME SHOW April 4-6 at the Salem Civic Center.

With more than 160 exhibitors in 224 indoor booths and outdoor exhibit spaces, THE HOME SHOW, sponsored by the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc. (RRHBA), offers the industry's latest in products and services. This is the Association's 27th annual consecutive show.

"Our show offers one-stop shopping for your home," says David Radford, president of RRHBA." It offers information on everything from landscaping and lawn irrigation to the newest technology in roof coatings and all types of home construction."

The home builders organization, a trade association with more than 440 member firms, encourages the research and development of new materials, new building techniques, new building equipment and improved methods of home financing. Members range from builders and contractors to interior designers and Realtors.

"Having more exhibitors than last year gives the show diversity," Radford says. "Consumers need to know what options they have that fit their budgets."

This year's show features the ``Affordable Housing Corner,'' sponsored by the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and located in Parlor A. VHDA has teamed with area Realtors, mortgage bankers and housing professionals to provide information on affordable housing options. Housing specialists will be available to answer questions such as:

Am I ready to buy?

How much can I afford?

What are my options as far as mortgage programs?

Should I get a home inspection?

Who is involved in the home-buying process?

What are down payments and closing costs?

Should I house hunt prior to meeting with a mortgage banker?

VHDA's ``Importance of Home Ownership Education for First-time Home Buyers'' seminars are Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 3 p.m. The 30-minute seminars are free to THE HOME SHOW attendees. The seminar, a shortened version of VHDA's six-hour course Home Ownership Educational Program, includes an overview of the home-buying process and instruction regarding how to determine how much house one can afford. It is presented by Andrea Hager, housing projects manager for TAP/Blue Ridge Housing Development Corporation and VHDA-certified home ownership trainer.
