NEW TO THE VALLEY

CUSZAN'S DELICATESSEN

Owners: Fred and Alan Alouf.

Type of business: A traditional New York deli, also featuring many Lebanese and Mediterranean selections.

Where: The Marketplace, Christiansburg, in the former Captain D's building.

When: Opening in early April.

The menu: The father-and-son team has planned a menu of deli sandwiches and ethnic foods. Customers can choose anything from a sandwich to stuffed grape leaves. Other fare includes humus with tahini dip, tabouli salad and spinach pies. Some items will have the Aloufs' special mint lemon dressing. Domestic and imported beers and wines will also be available.

Why? The Aloufs decided to open the type of restaurant they like to eat at. "There's nothing in the area that offers these special foods," Fred Alouf said.

Who is Cuszan? Actually, there is no Cuszan. "Cuszan" is not a foreign name, but a whimsical family expression. It is pronounced "cousin."
