Rural Retreat, Wytheville councils to meet

WYTHEVILLE - The town councils of Rural Retreat and Wytheville will hold their quarterly joint meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Wytheville Community Center.

Wytheville representatives will give an overview of recent public works activities and a proposed utilities extension for an industrial park. Rural Retreat will give an update on projects including the renovation of its new town hall in the former Premiere Bank building.

The county will report on the status of the Fort Chiswell waste-water, Big Survey water and Graham's Forge water projects, future solid waste disposal plans, participation in the New River Valley Regional Jail project and reassessment matters.

School Arts Fair scheduled at WCC

WYTHEVILLE - The 1997 Wytheville Community College School Arts Fair is set for April 23-25 in Bland and Grayson Halls on the college campus.

Elementary and secondary students will show art in several categories. On the final day, high school students from the area will attend arts and crafts workshops. Workshop leaders will demonstrate crafts and allow students to participate in them.

Introductory course in art, music offered

WYTHEVILLE - Jack White, professor of music and director of the Wytheville Community College Concert Band, will offer a music and art survey course from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on three Saturdays in April.

The classes on April 5, April 12 and April 19 will meet in Fincastle Hall, Room 15. The course is designed for adults interested in an introduction to the world of art and music, covering major trends and movements from the Renaissance to today.

Much of the one-credit course will consist of slides and recordings representing different periods of art and music history. No textbook is required.

Microcomputer courses slated

WYTHEVILLE - A variety of one-credit microcomputer courses at Wytheville Community College will be offered during the last five weeks of its spring semester. Each course will meet from 7 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. once a week for five weeks, starting the first week in April.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets and Introduction to Windows 95 start Tuesday; Introduction to Windows 3.1 and Introduction to Microsoft Word start Wednesday, and Introduction to the Internet and World Wide Web starts Thursday.
