Campaign fund raising
The House on March 21 approved $3.8 million in funding to probe possible fund-raising abuses by the Clinton administration and Democratic National Committee during the 1996 election cycle. In a compromise with GOP conservatives, the resolution also postpones any increases in House committee budgets for at least a month and creates a $7.9 million ``reserve fund'' for unspecified committee expenses. Opponents objected to funding an investigation that they say unfairly singles out the Democratic Party, and said the reserve fund would be misused. Supporters expressed satisfaction in the direction and funding of the investigation. A ``yes'' vote favors the compromise resolution.
