The Coast Guard rescued six people - including a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old - from Currituck Sound on Saturday.
The people were all wearing life jackets when their 20-foot pontoon boat capsized, said Petty Officer Stephen Baker. No one was injured.
Two adults swam and waded to shore from the boat, which was about two miles offshore, the Coast Guard said. They notified the Currituck central emergency dispatcher of the people still with the boat about 4:30 p.m.
The Coast Guard sent a helicopter from Elizabeth City to pick up the two youngsters, three adults and a 15-year-old.
The boaters' names had not been released Saturday night.
