BERGER, Furlow, 85, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, March 29, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hodnett Berger. Survivors include four nieces, Norma Hodgett, Chathum, Naomi Phillips, Charlotte, N.C., Evelyn Hern and Polly Berger both of Charleston, W.Va.; three nephews, R.D. Clemons, Cincinnati, Ohio, Frank Clemons, Detroit, Mich., and Robert Berger, Charleston, W.Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Williams Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Noel C . Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

CAMPBELL, John Buchanan Sr., 78, of Rich Valley, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, in Vencor Hospital, Greensboro, N.C. Mr. Campbell was a member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church and a former member and Elder of Rich Valley Presbyterian Church. He was a prominent Rich Valley farmer. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Campbell of Marion; two daughters, Peggy Emery of San Antonio, Texas, and Lynn Robinson of Rural Retreat; three sons, John B. Campbell Jr. of Roanoke, David P. Campbell of Richmond and Hal Campbell of Rich Valley; one sister, Kathryn Munroe of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Harold Campbell of Marion and Charles Campbell of Rich Valley, and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rich Cardot and Dr. Sheldon Sorge officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow in Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Renovations Fund, c/o R. M. Buchanan Jr., Route 3, Saltville, Va. 24370. CRALEY, Dessie Duncan, 69, of Dallastown, Pa., died Saturday, March 29, 1997. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, Va.

DELP, R alph P., 73, of Elk Creek, passed away Saturday, March 29, 1997, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1923, in Flatridge to James W. and Flossie Perkins Delp. He was a self-employed farmer and contractor. He served 29 years on the Grayson County School Board and was a retired director of Grayson National Bank. He was a member of Independence Masonic Lodge #129, A.F.&A.M. Surviving are his wife, Esther Greer Delp; a son and daughter-in-law, David Lawrence and Ann Delp of Kernersville, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Don Martin of Fries, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at Lebanon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Eminhizer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence and will be taken to the church 30 minutes preceding the service to lie in state. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to Elk Creek Rescue Squad, P.O. DENT, Eula Webb, 97, of Botetourt, died Sunday, March 30, 1997. She was the widow of Terrill S. Dent and was also preceded in death by two sons, John R. Dent and Daniel W. Dent. She was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church. Mrs. Dent is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Deo Wilson, Botetourt Co. ; sons and daughters-in-law, Norman T. and Mary Dent, Roanoke, George O. and Dot F. Dent, Roanoke, Randall L. and Doris H. Dent, Roanoke; a number of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 1997 at Oakey's North Chapel with Dr. Robert G. Moore III officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call Monday at Oakey's North Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Rd., Roanoke.

GRIFFITH, Sylvia Eanes, 83, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, March 29, 1997. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday from the Christiansburg Church of Christ conducted by Mr. Tom Hodge. KAKNIS, Delores E., 61, of Winchester, died Saturday, March 29, 1997 at her home. Mrs. Kaknis was born October 4, 1935 in Montgomery County, Va. a daughter of Christine E. Brown Sutphin of Blacksburg, Va. and the late Roy Lee Sutphin. She graduated from Blackburg High School and received an Associates Degree from Radford College. Mrs. Kaknis was the retired co-owner for 28 years of the Open Kitchen and co-owner of Amherst Diner for 18 years. She was a member of Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, John G. ``Johnnie"" Kaknis; daughter, Robin Elizabeth Kaknis of Arlington; two sons, John Hunter Kaknis of Stephens City, and Christopher Brooks Kaknis of Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Erin Lindsey Kaknis and Sarah Hunter Kaknis both of Stephens City; one sister, Rachael Lee Herrmann of Newport News; and one brother, John Brown Sutphin of Blacksburg. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Yachnis officiating. Interment will be in Gainesboro Cemetery. PLOTT, Col. William Cloyd, (USAF, ret.), 79, of Lexington, died Easter Sunday, March 30, 1997, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington. He was born May 15, 1917, in Chickasha, Okla., the son of the late Charles E. and Rose Murray Plott. He studied pre-law at the University of Oklahoma, then was appointed to the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. Graduating in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree, he began flight training in the old Army Air Corps. He received his pilot wings in December 1942 and began a 28-year career in the Air Force. In World War II, he was stationed on Guam as the Operations Officer for the 315th Bomb Wing. In Vietnam, he served as an a dvisor to the Vietnamese wing at Bien Hoa. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with ten Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Distinguished Flying Cross with gold wings, the Vietnamese Honor Medal and Vietnamese wings. Col. Plott was stationed at Virginia Military Institute in 1967 as Professor of Aero Space Studies. It was during this tour of duty that he and his wife decided to make Lexington their home. In 1948, while stationed in the Washington, D.C., area, he and several Air Force officers had attended the College of Law at Georgetown University. He graduated cum laude with a law degree. When he retired from the Air Force in 1970, he began the practice of law as an associate with Henry J. Foresman in Lexington. He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar Association, and was a past president of the Buena Vista-Rockbridge County Bar Association. He was a past president of the Lexington Rotary Club, past president of the Rockbridge Volunteers Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and had served the community as campaign director for the Lexington-Rockbridge County United Fund Drive and as crusade chairman for the Rockbridge Community Unit of the American Cancer Society. Col. Plott was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. In Lexington, he served many years on the Vestry of the R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church, and served the Diocese of Southwest Virginia on both the Standing Committee and Executive Committee. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bette Lou; a son, William C. Plott Jr. of Natick, Mass.; two daughters, Patricia Jayne Davis of Austin, Texas, and Marilyn Rose Plott of the home address; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Milton Schiedel; a son-in-law, Parke H. Davis; a daughter-in-law, Judith Adams Plott, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at the R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to the church or to Lexington Life Saving and First Aid Crew. Lomax Funeral Home, Buena Vista, is handling the arrangements.

RILEY, Ronald Lee, 55, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., formerly of Richmond and Vinton, Va., died Sunday, March 30, 1997. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

SAMPLE, James W. Jr., 53, of Roanoke, died Saturday, March 29, 1997. He was a former Boy Scout leader and had over 31 years of service with Bell Atlantic. Mr. Sample is survived by his wife, Julie L. Sample, Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Angela Sample, Thaxton; grandson, Travis Q. Sample, Thaxton; sister and bro ther-in-law, Linda S. and Ed Francisco, Salem; aunts, Osie Sowder, Christiansburg, Beth Chrisman, Christiansburg, Dorothy Sample, Salem; uncle and aunt, George and Geneva Zimmerman, Salem; a number of cousins. SLOUGH, Sandra McCormick Sorrells, 52, of Route 1, Buena Vista, died Saturday, March 29, 1997. She was born on July 15, 1944 in Staunton a daughter of the late Hunter Lee McCormick and Helen Smiley McCormick. Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Dean Slough; one son, Jesse Darrell Sorrells, Vinton; one daughter, Kimberly A. Shafer, Buena Vista; one sister, Sharon M. Agee, Penhook; two grandchildren, Dillon Lee Shafer and Jillian C. Sorrells. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 1997 in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor G. YOST, Callie Curtis Bonham, 86, of Roanoke, died Sunday, March 30, 1997. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Byron L. and Nancy Yost of Roanoke; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Y. and Marvin Craig of Marion; four grandchildren, Tucker Yost of RIchmond, Courtney Yost of Roanoke, Laurie Edgar of Virginia Beach and Elizabeth Craig Keese of Marion, and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Sherwood Memorial Park, with Rev. Dale Holloway officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Salem Chapel.
