BROWN, Billie Dooley, 72, of 6646 Sagefield Avenue, Radford, formerly of Narrows, died Wednesday morning, April 2, 1997, in the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was bor n in Shawsville on October 17, 1924, and was the daughter of the late James Luther and Rachael Humphries Dooley. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathy Runions Sizemore. Survivors include her husband, M. W. (Butch) Brown Jr. of Radford; two daughters, Carolyn Runions, Covington, Tenn. and Anne Greene of Radford; a sister, Jackie Fife of Christiansburg; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows with Rev. Chris Michaels and the Rev. Dr. William H. Jackson officiating. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to the Van Fund, First Christian Church, Memorial Boulevard, Narrows, Va. 24124.

DAVIS, L. Glenn, 64, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday from John M. Oakey and Son, Salem.

EDWARDS, Daniel Edsel, Jr., 33, of 7476 Grassland Drive, Sandy Level, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997. Born May 3, 1963 in Danville, Va., he is a son of Daniel Edsel Edwards, Sr. and Merle Anderson Edwards, both of Sandy Level. Daniel was a graduate of Gretna Senior High School and a member of Penhook United Methodist Church. He was an employee with Spun Fibers in Collinsville until he became disabled. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Constance ``Connie"" Edwards, of Roanoke. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Cool Branch Rescue Squad, Penhook, Va. 24137 or your favorite charity. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 1997, at Penhook United Methodist Church, by Pastors Betty D. Marshall and Pastor Wayne Grinnell. ENGLISH, Edna, Burdette, of Route 4, Moneta, died Sunday, March 30, 1997. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Universal Outreach Church of God, 614 West Federal Street, Bedford, by Bishop Edward Crews. Burial will be in the Thomas Chapel Church Cemetery in Huddleston. The family will receive friends at the church from 7 to 8 Friday evening. FISHER, Iva Hunt Milam, 85, of Roan oke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997 at a Salem Nursing Home. She was born May 22, 1911 in Brights Va. and was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth and John David Hunt and she was the widow of Eugene Bennett Milam and DeWitt Fisher. Mrs. Fisher was a Choir Member at the Williamson Road Baptist Temple. Surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Frances M. and Melvin Deyerle, Raleigh, N.C., Avon M. and James Clark, Silver Spring, Md.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin B. and Jean Milam, Harrisonburg, Rev. Calvin T. and Mildred Milam, Apopka, Fla., James M. Milam, Franklinton, N.C., Dr. Alvin L. Milam, Fairborn, Ohio and David W. and Melissa Milam, Boones Mill; also surviving are 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Flora H. Edwards, Roanoke. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, 1997 with Rev. J. D. Hunt III., officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. GOAD, Ruth Cox, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997. She is survived by her husband, T. E. Goad; daughter and son-in-law, Mary G. and Wallace A. Walker, Appomattox; son, Jim Goad, Salem; sister, Sue Spivey, Winchester; also surviving are five grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 1997 at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. David Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. GUFFEY, Brenda Faye Beckner 48, of Vinton. GUILLIAMS, George Washington, 88, of Callaway, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997. Born February 22, 1909, he was a son of the late Robert and Melvine Webb Guilliams. He was a member of Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Guilliams; sons, Earl C. and Donald E. Guilliams; daughter, Doris E. Guilliams; son-in-law, William U. Agee. Surviving are a daughter, Goldie C. Agee of Callaway; two daughters-in-law, Juanita Hill of Danville and Barbara Wright of Callaway; grandchildren, William T. (Bill) Agee and wife, Vickie, of Roanoke, Brenda Quinn of Ferrum, Sharon Akers and husband, Eddie, of Rocky Mount, Earl Guilliams Jr. and wife, Dianne, of Danville; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie G. HOBACK, Clifford Victor, 85, of Floyd, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997 in a Salem nursing home. He was preceded in death by wives, Virginia Hodges and Gretchen Conner, two brothers, Edgar and Carl Hoback, one sister, Ether Ridinger, a son-in-law, Shirley A. Peters and a grandson, Terry Amos Peters. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Wanda and George Bowles, Roanoke, Norman (Buck) and Lena Hoback, Hollins, Maxine Peters, Check; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. HOLLIDAY, William, (``Bill""), 83, of Marion, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997 in Sm yth County Community Hospital. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad with thirty-five years of service. He is survived by his wife, Irene Callahan Holliday of Marion; two daughters, Linda Holliday Grubb and Peggy Holliday Frye, both of Marion; two sons-in-las, Douglas V. Grubb and Foye C. Frye, both of Marion; three grandchildren, Jennifer Grubb Henson and husband, Michael, Douglas Grubb II, all of Marion and William ``Billy"" Frye of Blacksburg; one great-grandson, Matthew Henson of Marion; one sister, Eve H. Groseclose of Speedwell. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3,1997 at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, with the Rev. Neville Mozingo and the Rev. George Mowrey officiating. HYLTON, Roscoe Z., 79, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hartman Hylton and a daughter, Karen Jeanette Hylton. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Webster, Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Pam Hylton, Roanoke; grandchildren, Josh, Ashley, and Samantha Webster, Ronni and Seth Hylton; sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille and Joe Secrest, Blue Ridge, Cathlene Collins, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Ann Hylton, Blue Ridge; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Leonard Leffel, Roanoke, Ray and Christine Hartman, Roanoke, Alvin and Peggy Hartman, Roanoke, Juanita Hartman, Roanoke; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. JOINER, Myrtle Hash, 93, of Salem, passed away Sunday, March 30, 1997. Among the survivors is a grandson, Floyd (``Bruthr"") Jarvis of Greensboro, N.C. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Mr. Verlin Wygal of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. MACE, Jean Blosser Hood 75, of Miramar, Fla.; passed away on April 1, 1997 formerly of Christiansburg, Va. Jean was born in Roane County, W.Va on June 25, 1921. Jean was the widow of John Mace and was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Jane Blosser. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Hood Cencebaugh of Miramar, Fla.; and Sharon Hood Lintner of Christiansburg, Va ; one son, Richard W. Hood of Belspring, Va.; two sisters, Wilda Whytsell of Arnoldsburg, W Va; Lorna Slider of Ripley, W.Va; eleven grand children, four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at First Christian Church on 400 Tyler Ave. in Radford, Va. at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 1997. The Rev. Gina Rhea will be conducting services. MARTIN, Grey McVey, 61, of Montvale, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997 in Southwest Virginia Cancer Center, after a co urageous battle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Martin and Stella Miller Martin. He was the Lord's faithful servant at Montvale United Methodist Church and Vinton Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his wife, Helen Custer Martin; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and William Jackson, Drakes Branch, Va.; his son, William Jeffrey Martin, Roanoke; his brother, I. W. Martin, Jr., Tolleson, Ariz.; his sisters, Dorlee Allison, Roanoke, Dollie Burks, Memphis, Tenn., Lilly Decker, Salem, Ill., Diane Martin, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bernice Weaser, Avondale, Ariz. Also surviving is Joe Pugh and a host of loving friends. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, 1997, at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Chris Foster and the Rev. MARTIN, Richard E., 55, of Cornel ia, Ga., died Monday, March 31, 1997, at the Stephens County Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Giles County, Va. on April 9, 1941, he was a son of the late Jesse David and Zada Glenna Lafon Martin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Martin. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Alewine Martin, Cornelia, Ga.; two sons, Adam Martin, Atlanta, Ga. and Shannon Martin, Dahlonega, Ga.; a daughter, Melissa Scarbrough, Athens, Ga.; a sister, June Small, Princeton, W.Va.; a brother, Bobby Martin, Powhatan, Va.; a sister-in-law, Allagrey Martin, Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren. SCALES, John Arthur, 56, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 1997. Born in Bedford County, Va., he was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Roanoke, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Willie Scales and Ossie Barlow Scales, a brother, Willie A. Scales and a sister, Dorothy Scales Mason. He is survived by one daughter, Toi D. Scales; a stepdaughter, Nikki Newell; a granddaughter, Malaysia Newell; one sister, Mary E. (Charles) Langhorne; two brothers, Marshall W. Scales and George D. Scales; a devoted friend, Sharon Newell, all of Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. THOMPSON, Randall Vernon, 58, of Christiansburg, died early Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with 30 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Linda K. Thompson; two sons, John Thompson of Mt. Airy, N. C., and James Thompson of Pulaski; one sister, Lois Cox of Radford, and three grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Lewis Weaver, with full military honors. TOPPING, Monon Lee, 84, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at his residence. Mr. Topping was born in Rockbridge County on April 26, 1912, and was a son of the late Blammier Robertson Topping and Mary Taylor Topping. He was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, a past member of Fairfield First Aid Crew, and was retired from VMI where he worked as a carpenter. Mr. Topping is survived by his wife, Lydia Margaret Topping of Fairfield; one daughter, Patricia T. Self, and one son, Samuel L. Topping, both of Fairfield; one brother, Robert B. Topping of Lexington, and three granddaughters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 1997, from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Gunsalus officiating. TURPIN, Ellen Newby, 73, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Ray Turpin. Survivors include five sons, Cecil D. Turpin and Jerry Randolph Turpin, both of Radford, William Ray Turpin, Clarence Edward Turpin, and Roger Lee Turpin, all of Pulaski; one daughter, Alberta Grace Nunn of Pulaski; one sister, Gida Farmer of Ca tawba; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. VAN DYKE, Joyce Anne, (Mrs. Malcolm E.), 54, of the Lake Park section of Richlands, passed away at her home Tuesday, April 1, 1997, from a brief illness. Born in Wise County, she was the daughter of Sherman R. (Joe) Kanode of Christiansburg and Ruth Stewart Kanode of Richlands. She was a graduate of Radford College and taught in Tazewell County Public Schools for nearly 30 years. She presently taught sixth grade at Richlands Middle School. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Malcolm E. Van Dyke; two daughters, Mrs. Susanna Hart of Roanoke, Mrs. Marsha Tarter of Tazewell; one half sister, Mrs. Teena Hosner of Blacksburg; one half brother, Tery Kanode of Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Jason Keith Herndon II of Tazewell, Adam Hart and Mary Anne Hart of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 4, 1997, at 11 a.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, with Rev. John Charles and Rev. Hugh Whitfield officiating. VESTAL, Ruth St. Clair, 80, of Vinton, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997. She was a member of Barnhardt Baptist Church, and was a retired Audit Clerk for the I.B.E.W. in Washington, D. C. She was a daughter of the late Luther and Nealie St. Clair, and was also predeceased by a sister, Audrey Schwarz, three brothers, Jasper, Bowman and Wilson St. Clair. Surviving are her husband, Haywood M. Vestal; sisters, Leafy S. Barton, Ila S. L awhorn, Naomi S. McMillan, Vyrus S. Lawhorn, Dovie S. Thomas, all of Vinton; many nieces and nephews. WALLER, George Jr., 73, of 1013 Norwood St., Apt. 10, Radford, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at his home. He was born June 29, 1923 in Radford, son of the late George Waller and Mary Waller. He was a retired employee of Radford Furniture Co. with ten years of service. He was a veteran, and a member of First Baptist Church, West St., Radford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene A. Waller on February 9, 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn E. Merritt, Radford; sister, Elizabeth Lewis, Radford; and grandchildren.
