NOT JUST WHISTLIN' IN DIXIE

Is champ whistler Chris Ullman ready to broaden his skills?

CHRIS ULLMAN, a 33-year-old government employee from Washington, D.C., is headed to Louisburg, N.C., later this month to defend his national whistling championship at a two-day whistler's convention.

Ullman, former spokesman for House Budget Committee Chairman John Kasich and soon to start as spokesman for the Securities and Exchange Commission, is versatile: According to an Associate Press story, he holds the whistling titles in both the classical and pop competitions.

Still, even more impressive would be if Ullman could make it a vocal Triple Crown by entering and winning a competion in another North Carolina town - the hollering contest at Spivey's Corner.
