Obviously no longer holding a grudge, the British have sent us some wonderful things - The Beatles, a proper cup of tea and, sometimes, Princess Di.
Now, they're sending us something divine - the choir of St. Margaret's Church, the parish church of the House of Commons, part of Westminster Abbey. They'll be filling Roanoke's Greene Memorial Church with their heavenly voices Sunday at 4 p.m., accompanied by organist Thomas Trotter. Trotter played to a full house here in 1989.
Even if you're not a royal subject, this choir is fit for a queen. That's a fact. The choir has sung many times for the Royal Family and for members of Parliament.
Members of St. Margaret's Choir also belong to other well-known groups, including The Cambridge Singers. Not to be upstaged by Spanish monks, the choir just recorded its first CD.
The choristers will sing sacred music of Henry Purcell, Benjamin Britten and Gustav Holst, among others. Trotter will play a mix, including ``Pomp and Circumstance'' (graduating seniors cannot practice during the program).
Like most of the concerts in this annual series, admission is free. Call if you need more information, 344-6225.
