Thanks to volunteers from the Pulaski Sportsmans' Club, a road to a popular recreation area will not be closed this summer.
The U.S. Forest Service had closed Gatewood Road last year, because of road damage and trash dumping.
The Forest Service had agreed to reopen the road for a period in the spring and fall, but had decided to keep it closed for the summer and winter.
Then the Pulaski Sportsmans' Club went to work.
"The sportsman's club did a great job," says Debbie Hawkins, a Forest Service representative. She said the club's actions have resulted in a change of policy for the Forest Service.
Now, the road will be kept open as long as weather permits if the club continues to keep it clean.
Hawkins said the town and county of Pulaski have also contributed to the effort.
