ROBBER THREATENS CLERK WITH GUN, OPENS REGISTER HIMSELF

A Roanoke Stop-In convenience store clerk was robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning.

Joy Melinda Dent was working at the Stop-in at 2941 Hershberger Road N.W. about 3:14 a.m. when the robbery occurred, Roanoke police said.

Police gave this account: A man walked into the store wearing a black nylon stocking over his face and pulled out a small handgun. He opened the cash register and took an undisclosed amount of money. The clerk told police that she did not know how the robber opened the cash register. After taking the money, he left the store through the front door.
