6-YEAR-OLD BEDFORD GIRL STRUCK, KILLED

A 6-year-old girl was killed Saturday when she was hit while crossing a Bedford County highway.

Caitlin Rose Burks, of Big Island, was struck about 12:35 p.m. as she crossed Virginia 122, eight-tenths of a mile south of Virginia 814, in front of a pickup truck driven by Brandon J. Overstreet, whose age and address were unavailable, the Virginia State Police said.

Burks was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, where she died at 1:40 p.m., police said.

No charges have been filed against Overstreet.

Further details of the accident were unavailable Saturday night.
