Blankenship anniversary

Raymond and Mandy Blankenship will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 9, 1997. The couple are life long residents of Roanoke. Both retired from the City of Roanoke. Congratulations, Gerald, Grant & LorettaCullop anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice H. Cullop Jr. of Wytheville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at their home on April 5. It was given by the couple's daughters, Anita C. Thompson of Richmond and Shirley C. Park of Fredericksburg, and their families.

The couple was married April 9, 1947. She is the former Ina Elizabeth (Betty) Williams of Marion. Mr. Cullop is retired from Hemingway Transport Company in Wytheville.

The couple has one grandchild.

Gartzke anniversary

Donald L. and Juanita H.. Gartzke celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 5, 1997. They were honored by their children, Deborah Gartzke, Kevin and Melinda Gartzke, and grandsons, Nathanael and Caleb Gartzke at a reception held at the Central Church of the Brethren.

The couple was married April 6, 1947 in Washington, D.C. at the Washington City Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Gartzke is the former Juanita H. Gough of Staunton, Va.

Many friends and family members, including out-of-town guests, Rev. Stan and Reba Easty of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Vince and Sharon Daniels of Virginia Beach, Va. helped them celebrate this special occasion.

Harris anniversary

Steve R. Harris and Sally W. Harris celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on April 3, 1997. Steve is employed by Varney Electric and Sally is employed by the Division of Motor Vehicles. Steve and Sally have two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Chelsea.

Holloway anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. William McKinley Holloway, Sr. of Covington, Va. celebrated 50 years of true love and happiness on December 25, 1996. On December 28th, they renewed their vows in a traditional marriage ceremony at Pine Street Baptist Church in Covington. Those in the ceremony included their daughter, Joihelene Holloway as maid of honor, granddaughter, Lorie Holloway as bride's maid, and their grandson, David Holloway, as best man. The happy couple's son. Rev. William McKinley Holloway, Jr. was the officiating. minister.

Also, attending the ceremony was the couple's daughter-in-law, Elaine, granddaughter-in-law, Tamara, and their two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Caleb.

Following the golden ceremony, there was a dinner reception at Best Western in which the couple was toasted for their fifty years of marital bliss. Family and friends enjoyed a beautiful reception in which a wedding cake was cut by the couple and served to guests. When asked how they felt about the entire event, both responded, ``We feel very blessed!''.

Pearl Miller was the wedding directress.

Jackson anniversary

Dr. and Mrs. Stuart Jackson celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 6th, 1997. She is the former Ethel Elizabeth (Betty) Merrydew. The celebration was held at Lilly's Bistro and was hosted by their family. The couple was married April 5th 1947 in Richmond, Va.

Their children are Chris Roots of Canada, Kitty Sutphin of Rocky Mount, Randy Jackson of Troutville, Judy Wilmoth of Roanoke, and Rick Jackson of New York. They have 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dr. Jackson is employed by Engineering and Marketing. Mrs. Jackson is employed by Rack Room Shoes. They attend Parkway Wesleyan Church, and belong to the Animal Protection League and SPCA.

Out-of-town guests attending the celebration were Margaret and Bryant Clarke of Richmond, Va.

Law anniversary

Alfred and Frances Law celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 5, 1997. A reception in their honor, hosted by th eir children and grandchildren, was held at the Rocky Mount Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Law is the former Frances Wray. She worked for many years at the Hollywood Beauty Salon in Rocky Mount. Mr. Law is retired from J. P. Stevens. They are lifelong residents of Franklin County.

The couple has four daughters and six grandchildren

Likens anniversary

Vivian and Vernon Likens celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 5, 1997. The celebration was held at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Salem, Va., and was hosted by their daughter, Alice and husband, Bill Akers; their son, Sammy and wife, Terri Likens.

The couple was married April 4, 1947 in Roanoke County, where they have lived for 45 years. She is the former Vivian Elliott of Salem, Va. They have 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Likens is retired from American Electric Power Co. with 37 years of service. Mrs. Likens is a housewife.

McLaughlin anniversary

Paul and Peggy McLaughlin celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 5th , 1997. A reception, hosted by their children, was held at the Sunnybrook Inn.

They were married in Cass, West Virginia on April 5, 1947. Mrs. McLaughlin is the former Peggy Good. Mr. McLaughlin is retired from the railroad. They have 3 children, Debbie Anderson of Roanoke; Kevin McLaughlin and David McLaughlin, both of Florida, and 5 grandchildren.

Out-of-town guests attending the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Woodring, Mr. and Mrs. Hilsheimer, Mr. and Mrs. Bumen, Mr. and Mrs. Ratliff, Cortez Good, and Mr. and Mrs. Boggs.

Pearman anniversary

James E. and Lorene S. Pearman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 3, 1997. The couple was honored at a reception held at Blacksburg Country Club on April 5, 1997, hosted by Jim Pearman, Jr. and Brenda, Ruth P. Keeling, and Steve and Susan Pearman. Their grandchildren, Deidre and Cory Keeling and Morgan Pearman, also assisted with the reception. The couple was married on April 3, 1947, in the living room of the old Methodist parsonage in Shawsville, Va. and have been active members of the Shawsville community during their 50 years together. Jim and Lorene are both retired from the former Bank of Shawsville. Jim, Lorene and their children would like to thank all those friends who made this a very special occasion.

Pillis anniversary

Elmer S. and Helen Thompson Pillis celebrated their 50th anniversary on March 28, 1997. A party was given in their honor at their farm in Botetourt County on April 5th. The couple was married in Roanoke, Va. They have 4 children and 10 grandchildren.

Stalnaker anniversary

Lucy & Ernie Stalnaker celebrated their 50th anniversary on March 29, 1997. The celebration was held at Lakeside Baptist Church, hosted by their children. The couple was married April 3, 1947 in Roa noke, Va. They have two children, Ernie Mack Stalnaker of Roanoke, Va. and Shirley Morck of Little Rock, Ar., four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
