Robert Williams
Literary Festival Winner
Robert Williams, son of Edd and Shirley Williams of Danville, won the 1997 Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival playwriting competition. The festival, which is held yearly in New Orleans, is a celebration of Southern writing and Tennessee Williams in particular. This year's participants include playwright Edward Albee, Alec Baldwin, and Kim Basinger.
Robert is a screenwriter and playwright and has won numerous other awards for his writing. His winning play will be produced at next year's festival. He attended Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia and studied writing and film production at Yale and New York University. He divides his time between Virginia and Los Angeles.
Robert was born in Roanoke and is a former resident. He is the grandson of L.V. and Ola Mills (deceased), and the nephew of Paul and Anita Mills, all of Roanoke.
