If you do any coloring at all, you're probably familiar with the green and yellow Crayola crayon boxes. Crayolas are, by far, the most popular crayons in the world, and they are sold in dozens of countries around the globe.
Here are some interesting facts about Crayola Crayons:
Crayola has made more than 100 billion crayons. That's enough to circle the earth almost five times!
The average kid uses up 730 crayons by age 10.
Most kids spend an average of almost 30 minutes a day coloring.
The two most popular crayon colors are red and blue.
There are 96 different Crayola crayon colors, but only 18 different label colors. Similar colors, like peach and apricot, have the same color label.
Only two Crayola crayon colors have ever had their names changed. In 1958, "prussian blue" was changed to "midnight blue" because teachers felt that children didn't know much about Prussian history. And in 1962, "flesh" became "peach" when Crayola realized not everybody's skin is the same color.
In 1991, for the first time in the company's history, Crayola retired eight classic colors to make room for new, brighter ones. Colors like cerulean and jungle green replaced the older blue-gray, lemon yellow and others. Some adults were upset, but kids loved the bright new colors.
The smell of crayons is one of the top 20 most-recognized smells in the world!
