Volunteer firefighter was on way to call in private vehicle at time of collision.
Town police are investigating an accident that closed North Main Street for about an hour Sunday.
Brandy K. Edwards, 23, of Jonesville, did not stop at a stop sign before attempting to make a left turn onto North Main Street from Broce Drive, Blacksburg police said. A volunteer firefighter was on his way to an emergency call when his truck collided with Edwards' car about 3:20 p.m.
Mark L. Smith, 23, was southbound on North Main and displaying red and white halogen flashing lights on his dashboard on his way to a car fire, according to police.
Rescue members had to take off a door and part of the top of Edwards' car to remove her. She was taken to Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. police said. It is unclear if Edwards was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Smith was treated and released Sunday. He was wearing a seat belt and the truck's air bag did deploy.
