21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT

Witnesses say the woman's vehicle pulled in front of a southbound car on Brambleton Avenue.

A 21-year-old Roanoke woman was killed Monday morning in an accident on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke County.

Mary Ann Richards of Medallion Circle Southeast died at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital shortly after the 9:50 a.m. accident, according to Officer W.D. Byrd of the Roanoke County Police Department.

Several witnesses said Richards was leaving a parking lot near Brambleton and View avenues when she pulled into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by David Chittum, 38, of Roanoke. Chittum's vehicle flipped after colliding with Richard's car, and he had to be cut from the wreckage. Chittum was taken to Roanoke Memorial with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed.

``There was nothing [Chittum] could have done,'' Byrd said. ``He didn't even have time to hit his brakes.''
