IN BRIEF

You can grill the Weber folks

The Weber Grill-Line opened on April Fool's Day with a staff of certified barbecue experts with a mindset that no question is too foolish!

The toll-free, people-staffed hotline will be open Monday through Friday through Labor Day, plus a taped recording will offer limited information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to practical advice on everything from lighting the fire to grilling dessert, callers will receive a free copy of Weber's latest grilling guide, "All American BBQ Entertaining," filled with grilling tips and eight complete BBQ meals. Call (800) GRILL-OUT; (800-474-5568).

Vegetarians to meet

The Virginia Vegetarian Society will meet Friday for an informal potluck gathering.

Bring a favorite nonmeat dish and copies of its recipe (or at least its ingredients) and any ideas you have for possible future programs. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Grandin Road at Brandon Avenue, Roanoke.

Another potluck is planned for May 17, same time and place.

A $1.50 contribution per adult will help offset the costs of beverages, building use and postage. Kids and human carnivores are welcome. For society information, call 380-2820.

Macrobiotic study

The recently formed Macrobiotic Study Group will hold a potluck on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at 1003 Highland Circle, Blacksburg. The informal gathering is intended as an opportunity to exchange knowledge and information and sample macrobiotic foods. It will be free and open to the public. However, attendees are requested to bring a macrobiotic dish and its recipe.

Don't be daunted if you don't know much about macrobiotics. Paula Markham, a practitioner for 14 years, said that she or Annie Kay's Whole Foods co-owner Clark Webb will be happy to answer your questions and steer you in the right direction recipe-wise. Call Webb at 552-4848 or Markham at 961-3974.
