A compromise has settled a dispute about wall heights at a new state prison for women in Fluvanna County.
A Circuit Court hearing on whether the Department of Corrections could force the $53 million project's general contractor to raise the height of the facility's masonry walls was canceled because ``the parties have agreed to a process by which construction can continue,'' said Shannon J. Briglia, an attorney for Richmond-based principal contractor Turner Construction Co.
The state dropped a demand that bricks and mortar be used for 108 walls in six buildings. Instead, architects will develop alternatives for raising wall heights.
