About ``Get over it, Kanawha County,'' April 1:
From PAUL REMY JR., Roanoke
I'm from Oak Hill, W.Va., and I think it's ridiculous because [West Virginia] needs the jobs. I think Kroger is making a foolish mistake.
About ``Virginia kids' dental-health crisis,'' April 3:
From ROBIN FORRY, Rocky Mount
I work for a local dentist, and I wish people could see some of the 3- and 4-year-olds who come into our office with severely decayed teeth, screaming and crying with toothaches. We can't treat them. Pedodontists won't accept them. We can't blame the pedodontists because of the fees. But, then again, who is responsible? The parents are. They get in these funds but they're not bringing the kids in for the dental care.
From LAKESHA HICKLIN, Roanoke
I have a son who is in this very situation. I had to transport him to UVa for dental care because none of the dentists here would accept Medicaid patients. This editorial really, really hit home because I've had so many problems with my son's teeth because of the lack of dental care. I really appreciate the editorial because, until I read it, I didn't realize anyone else was aware of this situation.
About ``Roanoke should focus on investing in its future,'' April 6:
From ORRIN CLIFTON, Roanoke
I feel that the real-estate taxes in the city should not be reduced because of the number of services that we need to improve. The tax rate is not too high. It's in line with other localities'. We have a number of issues that need to be addressed for the improvement of the quality of life for the people in Roanoke city. I think it's just absurd for the small amount of money that individuals would get from the proposed decrease.
About ``Is Virginia soon to be on the road again?'' April 7:
From FRED LANDIS, Roanoke
I don't believe you people! It seems like everyday you advocate a new tax or more taxes on items already taxed. You advocate a tax on church T-shirts, you're against the real-estate tax being cut a penny or two, and today you advocate an increase in the gas tax. Have you liberals ever been against a tax increase?
From HAROLD RAMSUER, Roanoke
Your transportation-tax editorial is exactly what we've come to expect of The Roanoke Times. Have you ever favored a tax reduction for the tax-strapped American worker whose tax obligation has long exceeded all definitions of ridiculous? I doubt it. Does your newspaper get some form of gratuity for promoting tax increases?
