Governor's School joins Internet training effort.
Free training on the use of the Internet is available to Pulaski County citizens at the Southwest Virginia Governor's School.
Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays, with complete training course running for two Monday nights. The second three-hour session would follow the first by two weeks.
People interested in taking the training should call John Wenrich at 674-1980. The training will start as soon as enough people register. The Governor's School is located on the Pulaski County High School campus.
Wenrich, who is on the Governor's School staff, told the school's board at its monthly meeting Tuesday that using school computers to provide citizen training after school hours seemed a good use of its facilities.
Wenrich is also part of the Pulaski County Internet Connection, an organization of business, government and education leaders set up to bring Internet access to county citizens.
To do that, PCIC is placing eight public-access computer terminals at key spots throughout the county for citizens to be trained on surfing the Internet. Two of these have already been set up, at the county's public libraries in Dublin and Pulaski.
Others are planned for the Pulaski Senior Center, Pulaski Municipal Building, Fairlawn Fire House, Pulaski County Courthouse, Dublin Town Hall and another site not yet chosen in the southern part of the county.
PCIC is seeking volunteers who are interested in becoming trainers for the Internet. Once trained, each volunteer would train at least 10 others. The eight public access terminals and the training costs are being funded through two grants obtained by the organization.
