Javier Lopez erases some poor pitching with strong hitting in a comeback victory.
Javier Lopez hit for the cycle to lead Virginia to a come-from-behind 14-11 victory over Virginia Tech in a baseball game Wednesday afternoon at English Field.
Lopez, who was the Cavaliers' starting pitcher before staying in the lineup as the designated hitter, doubled in the second inning, tripled in the fifth, hit a home run in the eighth and singled in the ninth. He was 4-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored.
The sophomore left-hander wasn't as fortunate on the mound, where he surrendered eight runs and eight hits in three innings, including a six-run first.
Tech (18-18) led 8-3, but Virginia (24-13) scored five runs in the fifth to tie it.
Barry Gauch led Tech with a two-run homer and an RBI double. Ryan Brittle (Radford) had three hits and two RBI for the Hokies.
