ANDERSON, Gladys Wright, 76, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 1997, in a local hospital. For many years Mrs. Anderson was known for her ceramics. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Lori, Steve, and Stephanie Anderson. Surviving are her husband, Virgil W. CLIFTON, Granville H., III, (``Jack""), 48, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 1997 at Duke University Medical Center. He was the president of Clifton Floor & Tile in Salem, Va. and also a member of the Roanoke Valley Home Builders Association, as well as a past president of the Southwest Virginia Floor Covering Association. He is survived by his parents, Granville H., Jr. and Mollie T. Clifton; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ena Clifton; special friend, Rhonda Price; niece, Sara Clifton; nephew, Sam Clifton; several aunts, uncles and cousins. JOHNSTON, Janet, 64, of 450 Piney Forest Road, Danville, died Monday, April 7, 1997 in Piney Forest Health Care Center. Born April 1, 1933 in Roanoke, she was a daughter of Edward W. Johnston and Ruth Craddock Johnston, who survives. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Triple L and Lucille Rumney Sunday School Class. She wa s graduate of Viaud School in Roanoke. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an Avon representative from 1975 until 1984. She was a sitter from 1968 until 1975. In addition to her mother of Danville, she is survived by a sister, Dorothy J. Whelchel of Albany, Ga. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from the Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. He was born January 2, 1912 in Bedford County, a son of the late Jim Wash Miller and Mollie Morgan Miller. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jamie Miller. He was a well-known carpenter in the Huddleston and Smith Mountain Lake area, and was a member of the Patmos United Methodist Church. PLOGGER, Norman Lee, (``Shod''), 85, of Lexington, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. Mr. Plogger was born on April 13, 1911, in Rockbridge County, and was the son of the late Ge orge Watson Plogger and Minnie Belle Smith Plogger. He was a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, Lexington, and was a retired creeler with Burlington Industries. Mr. Plogger is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Johnson Plogger; one daughter, Norma Jean Sawyer; two sons, Kenneth E. Rhodenizer, Wayne Rhodenizer; one sister, Bertha ""Bootsie'' Nicely, all of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. POOLE, Terence Clancy Jr., 94, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997. He was predeceased by his wife, Claudine Robertson Poole. Mr. Poole retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway as electrician with 48 years service. He was a member of Local Union 813, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and for 30 years was the Shaffers Crossing Shop correspondent for the Norfolk & Western magazine. Mr. and Mrs. Poole operated a ceramic shop for many years. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Katherine Poole; four grandchildren and spouses, Karen and Neil McNally, Lynn and Herman Turk, Sheila and Mike Mason, and Robert and Kelly Poole; and six great-grandchildren, Anne Clancy and Katie McNally, Brendan and Brian Turk, and Eric and Matthew Mason. PRUNTY, Rev. Dr. Alfred Septemius, 71, of Roanoke, went to his eternal reward on Sunday, April 6, 1997, at the Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Va. He was retired from the Roanoke Veterans Hospital as a therapist. He was also pastor of Slate Hill Baptist Church in Roanoke County and recently retired from that position. SPRAKER, Norris Brown, 76, of 1840 Peppers Ferry Road, Pulaski, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at his home. He was born in Wythe County on January 26, 1921, and was the son of the late Claude S. Spraker and Elizabeth Davis Spraker. He was the retired owner and operator of Southwest Sales, Pulaski. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea. He was a member of the Pulaski VFW Post #1184, member of the Pulaski Elks Lodge, member of the Thornspring Golf Club, and was on the board of directors of the Randolph House Home for Adults, Pulaski. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Beamer Spraker, Pulaski; three children, Michael B. Spraker, Pulaski, Brenda S. Derrick, Durham, N.C., Richard L. Spraker, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; sister, Louise S Steele, Hyattsville, Md.; brother, Claude S. Army Air Corps after 23 years of service where he achieved the rank of E/6. He also served his country in the line of duty during the Korean Conflict. WHITEHEAD, Richard C., 74, of Deland, Fla., and formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, April 7, 1997, at his home. Mr. Whitehead was born in Norton, Va. and moved to Deland, Fla. in 1982 from Springfield, Va. He was a retired FBI agent and a World War II veteran. Mr. Whitehead was a member of First Baptist Church of Deland, the Deland County Club, the Ex-FBI Agents Club, and the Republician Club. WOODS, Nola Johnson, 90, of Pearisburg, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 1997. She was born October 24, 1906, in Dunlap, Tenn. to Charles R. and E dith Westbrook Johnson, who preceded her in death. She was the widow of Frank Hudson Woods, and was also preceded in death by brothers, Milton Foster and Ray Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Wllie Griffith; granddaughter, Dehronda Kay Woods; and great-grandson, Matthew Hudson Woods. She was a lifelong devoted member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Teddy G. Woods Sr. and wife, Pauline, of Pearisburg, James R. L. Woods and wife, Amelia, of Satsuma, Fla.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a number of special nieces, nephews, and stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, from the Pearisburg Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Ellison and Gray Smith officiating, with interment to follow in Birchlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Givens Funeral Home.
