Roanoke Valley tourism advocates plan to publish 50,000 copies of a new visitor guide to Western Virginia this summer.
The book, with 60 to 80 pages, is to be paid for by its advertising, sold by Leisure Publishing of Roanoke.
The guide will be available to convention visitors, travelers, bus tours and local residents.
People who inquire about visiting the valley will get a copy by mail. It will replace four Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau publications - a shopping guide, driving tour guide and two general publications - and one general guide of Downtown Roanoke Inc.
Salem is supporting the new guide, which will contain maps, listings of accommodations and attractions and events and color pictures.
Hard-bound copies will be placed in hotels. Tourism boosters hope to print an updated guide annually.
