FOUNDATION LOSES ITS FIRST DIRECTOR

Shauna Bishop moves on to Roanoke special events post.

The Community Foundation of the New River Valley has announced the resignation of Shauna Bishop, the organization's executive director.

Bishop, who was the foundation's first full-time director, is leaving to become special events coordinator for the city of Roanoke.

"She contributed to the growth of the foundation and was an asset to the board," said Lindsay West, the Community Foundation's president.

Formed in 1994, the Community Foundation is a nonprofit philanthropic organization that administers funds or trusts endowed by donors for public benefit.

It targets an array of causes - including health, human services, cultural, educational and artistic projects - that might not be served by traditional charities.

The New River group is one of a growing number of about 500 community foundations across the country.

Bishop had served as executive director since June. During her tenure, West said, the organization established an office at New River Community College and enhanced its endowments.

In May the Community Foundation plans to award its first small grants.

West said the search for a new director will begin immediately.

Anyone interested in applying for the position may contact her at 552-2023, Vice President Bill Dawson at 674-4327 or mail a letter and resume to 607 Giles Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
