ADKINS, James Wilbur, 47, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at his home. Surviving are his wife, Lena Adkins; one son, Jamie Adkins; parents, Alfred and Della Adkins, all of Christiansburg; two brothers, Ron Adkins, Largo, Fla., Gary Adkins, Salem; four sisters, Juanita Hollandsworth, Alexandria, Gloria Holmes, Siler, Ky., Debbie Collins, Pilot, Kim Nester, Christian sburg; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Lytton, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Mr. Lee Sarver and Mr. Buford Linkous, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call any time after noon Friday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

ALLEN, Debra Ward, 46, of Eden, N.C., formerly of Martinsville, Va., died Wednesday, April 9, 1997. Funeral 1 p.m. Saturday, McKee Funeral Services Chapel, Martinsville.

BELL, Ernest R., Sr., 62, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Salem. He was an army veteran of Korea, who served his country well and was highly decorated. He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Nannie Wilhelm Bell; four daughters, Dana Clark, Marion, Tammy Stump, Callaway, Tracey St.Clair, Ashley Bell, both of Roanoke; three sons, Eddie Bell, Chilhowie, Wayne Bell, Seven Mile Ford, Ernest R. Bell II, Roanoke; a sister, Nancy Ellis, Bristol. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 1997, with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

CLIFTON, Granville H. III, (``Jack""), 48, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 1997. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday, John M. Oakey and Son, Salem.

COMPTON, Patricia Ann Deel, 43, of the Leemaster Area of Vansant, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 1997. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of Joseph F. and Minnie A. Deel. She has been a resident of Buchanan County several years, and was a member of Big Prater Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Haysi High School Class of 1971, and a graduate of Medical Secretaries School. She was a former employee of Grundy Hospital and Dr. Robert F. Baxter's office. She and her husband were owners and operators of Bryan's Stop and Shop General Store on Slate Greek, Grundy, and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Compton is survived by her parents, Joseph F. and Minnie A. Deel, Birchleaf; her husband, Tony Compton, Vansant; one son, Anthony Bryan Compton, Blacksburg; two sisters, Joan Coleman, Birchleaf, Marcella O'Quinn, Birchleaf; three brothers, Jim Deel, Birchleaf, Gallie Deel, Birchleaf, Ronnie Deel, Bristol, Tenn.. She is also survived by five nieces; two nephews; and two great-nieces. Funeral services for Patricia Ann Deel Compton will be conducted Saturday, April 12, 1997, at 1 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Slone officiating, with burial to follow in the Deel Family Cemetery on Rakes Ridge, Birchleaf. The body will remain at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, where friends may call Friday at 4 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Craig Howell, Phillip Compton, Nathan Coleman, Ryan Compton, Matthew Church, Brad Looney, Richard Thacker. GLOVER, Peggy L., of Shawsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 1997. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and active member of Seneca Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Frank Glover Sr. of Shawsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Lisa Glover Jr. of Riner and Timothy and Amy Glover of Salem; grandchildren, Adam, Brooke and Noah; two brothers; three sisters; and many other f amily members and special friends. Services will be held at Seneca Baptist Church on Friday, April 11, at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. V. N. McHone. HARRIS, Maria Williams, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 1997. She is survived by one son, William M. Harris Jr. of California; two daughters, Wanda Harris Talton of California and Mary Harris Peterson, Petersburg; a sister, Alie Trent of Petersburg; a devoted cousin, Juanita H. Willis, Bluefield, W.Va.; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 12, 1997, at 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with Dr. Edward T. Burton officiating. JUDY, Katherine D., 80, of Daleville, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, after a long illness. She was born May 1, 1916, on a farm in Appomattox County, and was one of seven children of Jesse Osborne and Annie Thornhill Davidson. She and her husband, Charles, had been residents of Botetourt County since 1948. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a former employee of the Bank of Appomattox, and did some part-time teaching at Breckenridge Elementary School in Fincastle. She was a faithful member of Fincastle Baptist Church, where she had served as clerk and Sunday School teacher until disabled by a stroke in 1980. She became an active worker for the American Cancer Society while in her thirties. She had also survived a heart attack and also worked as a volunteer for the American Heart Association. She was also an active worker for the American Red Cross, and for years was responsible for finding volunteer workers for the bloodmobile visits to Botetourt County. In addition to her husband and long-time caretaker, Charles, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Jane Judy of Luray; grandson, Jon Jacob of Radford College; granddaughter, Annie Jane Judy of Luray; in addition a brother, Tom Davidson of Appomattox County; sisters, Elizabeth Harrison of Appomattox County, Mary Barrell of Harrisonburg, Annie ``Tee'' Matthews of Orange County, Bibb Haley of Roanoke County; and special friends and caretakers, Martha Barrows of Fincastle, Debbie Burris of Roanoke; and also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 1997, at the Fincastle Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Burris officiating. Interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rader Funeral Home in Daleville. KELLER, Chatty Robertson, 82, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, April 10, 1997. She was born in Spray, N.C. and was a member of The First Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, I. Jones Keller; daughter and son-in-law, Joan Marie and Roland Duquette, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; grandchildren, John S. Williams , Goodview, Robert C. Williams, Richmond, Kimberly S. Williams, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Danielle Renee Williams, Roanoke; brother, Fred Robertson, Martinsville; sister, Iris M. Robertson, Roanoke. RIDGEWAY, Stephen Edward, 67, of Vinton, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Salem. He was a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Burlington Industries and was honorary president of the Roanoke Valley Riders. He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Kay Ridgeway Tolley. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Hogan Ridgeway; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Fay Brown and Samuel Lee Brown, Vinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Wayne Ridgeway and Brenda Lee Ridgeway, Vinton; grandchildren, Samuel Lee Brown Jr., Angela Dawn Tolley, Carolyn Kay Ridgeway, Kristy Elaine Brown; great-grandchild, Michael Moran Zimmerman III; three brothers, Burnett and Jimmy Ridgeway, Richmond, Bryant Ridgeway, Halifax. SAUL, Agnes Crews, 93, of Roanoke, died in Tucker, Ga. Thursday, April 10, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie T. Crews and William P. Saul, and two sons, Robert Crews and James Crews. She was a member of Melrose Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Ralph Johnson, Tucker, Ga.; two grandchildren, Lewis Willard, New York, Russell Willard, Deluth, Ga.; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be cond ucted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 12 noon Saturday by the Rev. R. Bruce Griffith. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. TYLER, Patricia Evelyn Steptoe, 50, of Riverdale, Md., died Wednesday, April 9, 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Yvette Tyler, and a son, Donald Tyler Jr., both of Riverdale; her mother, Mrs. Margie Steptoe; her grandmother, Mrs. Zelda Sween, and her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Robert Easley, all of Roanoke; a brother, Hubert Steptoe Jr., and an uncle, Fred Steptoe, both of Washington, D.C., and other relatives and friends. WEBB, Nannie Mae, 81, of Hardy, died Thursday, April 10, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Webb. She was retired from Kenrose Manufacturing Company. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond E. and Mary Webb of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert Kingrey of Hardy; a sister, Freda Akers of Copper Hill; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Carter L. Sloan officiating. Interment in Sherwood M emorial Park.
